Below you’ll find our stories for December, and one very special holiday-time initiative.
Brighten a Child’s Christmas: Join Our Initiative to Support Dawn House
As the holiday season approaches, we have a special opportunity to create a brighter Christmas for children in need. Once again, we’re proudly supporting Dawn House, an organisation offering crucial services to women and their children escaping domestic, family, and sexual violence.
This year, we have taken the initiative to help bring joy and smiles to the children Dawn House supports. Many of these young ones are facing a difficult time, and with your generosity, we can make this festive season a little bit brighter for them.
We are calling on our wonderful community to rally together and donate gifts for children aged 2-18. These gifts will not only bring joy but also remind these children that they are not alone and that there is a caring community standing behind them.
If you’re able to support this meaningful cause, please bring your unwrapped gifts and place them under our Christmas Tree by Thursday, December 19th. Each gift, no matter the size, adds a sparkle to a child’s Christmas.
Thank you for your unwavering support and for helping us make a difference in the lives of those who need it most. Together, we can light up the faces of many children this holiday season.
Thank you!
The Joy of Connection: A Chat With Dr Anthony
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how social connections impact our health, as it’s a topic that often comes up with our members. One recent chat with a lovely retired woman really stuck with me. She told me how staying involved in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives brings her joy and a sense of connectedness and purpose she otherwise might not have. Enjoying community events here in Darwin helps her stay active, happier, and healthier.
I couldn’t agree more. Social connection has such a positive impact on wellbeing. Personally, I love catching up with friends – it gives me a sense of belonging that feels so good. Research even backs it up: staying socially connected helps improve sleep, reduce stress, and enhance overall quality of life.
Looking for ways to feel more connected? Here are some to try:
- Take a stroll at East Point with a friend.
- Join Parkrun – whether at Nightcliff or the CBD. You might make a new friend!
- Volunteer with a local Landcare group to look after the beautiful country we live in.
- Join a local sporting group.
- Grab a coffee with a friend.
- Attend our Life By Design Workshops – the next one is Think By Design on 11 December. I’ll be leading the conversation about mental wellbeing, and I’d love to see you there.
A Chiropractic Calling: Dr Sheree Shares Her Story
People often ask me, “Why did you become a chiropractor?” The answer takes me back to my childhood. My parents were huge advocates for chiropractic care, bringing my brothers and me in for regular adjustments from the time we were born.
I played high-level tennis during my teenage years and travelled frequently for tournaments. I began noticing that chiropractic care not only helped me recover faster but also kept me injury-free, even as others around me struggled with overuse injuries.
I decided to be a chiropractor at 14, but what really sealed the deal for me came from driving my grandmother to her appointments. Watching her walk out of each visit was awesome; she stood taller and more balanced, moved with ease, and smiled brighter as if a weight had been lifted each time.
That’s when I was SOLD on becoming a chiropractor. I was determined to help people of all ages live better lives. Whether it’s helping families stay active or supporting seniors in maintaining their independence, I’m grateful every day to be part of this amazing profession.
Keep Pain Away This Holiday Season
The holidays can be tough on your body – think hanging lights, cramped flights, or heat-induced aches. Here’s how to keep the pain away:
- Move your body - Exercise boosts endorphins, blocks pain, and keeps you flexible.
- Get adjusted - our care supports mobility and helps prevent travel-related discomfort.
- Eat smart - anti-inflammatory foods reduce pain and improve nerve function.
Stay active, aligned, and nourished for a joyful, discomfort-free holiday!
