Dr Sheree Embarks on an Adventure: Surfing, Trekking and Cultural Exploration
I grew up listening to my mum’s stories about her backpacking trips when she was in her 20s (she lived in London for around 6 years ), and I always remember being so fascinated. It was always ingrained in me that I would set off on my own journey one day. And so I did!
One of my favourite things about being a chiropractor is getting to meet people from all walks of life. Here in Darwin, I often see travellers in the centre. I always get excited hearing about their travels or about their trip to Australia, so I knew the travel bug was growing inside me for this big journey that I’m now on. I wanted to be able to create my own experiences and learn my own lessons.
I absolutely love the outdoors and trying new things. Three of my favourite things to do are surfing, hiking and experiencing different cultures and foods, so I wanted to plan a trip that covered all three.
During my trip, I’ll be hitting the waves in Morocco, Spain, and Portugal and diving deep into their cultures and food. As for the mountains, I like a challenge and testing how strong my body is, so that definitely meant signing up for a 10-day tour du Mont Blanc trek.
What I look forward to most about the trek is passing through different villages along the journey. That means lunches and dinners will be filled with local cuisine, which sounds luxurious compared to the dehydrated foods I would usually carry.
I feel very grateful to be on this trip and look forward to sharing updates along the way. Stay tuned!
Life in Darwin: Balancing Work, Wellness, and Fun With Dr Anthony
I’ve been in Darwin for six months now, and I’m absolutely loving life in the Top End! When I’m not busy checking spines at the Centre, I’m out and about in the community, doing what I love the most.
I truly value my relationships with friends and family, so I’ve been staying as social as possible to keep those connections strong. Some highlights have been attending live music events, experiencing the vibrant Barunga Festival, and exploring the iconic Darwin markets as much as possible.
As we all know, the Northern Territory boasts some of the most beautiful landscapes in the country, and I’ve been taking full advantage of that. My weekends are often filled with swimming, camping, hiking, and birdwatching. It’s been incredibly refreshing and has brought back memories of my time traveling and living in a van around Australia in 2022. Learning from and about this ancient land we live on is always a great pleasure.
Living in such a multicultural place like Darwin has also got me reminiscing about all the places I’ve lived throughout my life. Rockhampton in central Queensland was a fantastic place to grow up, offering a great mix of regional and coastal experiences. I then lived in the Solomon Islands for four years from ages 8 to 11. Living in a Pacific nation has definitely shaped me, teaching me the art of patience, immense gratitude, and the importance of slowing down in our fast-paced world.
My teenage years were spent in the small country town of Allora, where my mum is from. This highlighted the issues faced by regional Australia and allowed me to have a wholesome upbringing during my formative years. Studying and living in Melbourne for five years was also some of the most fun and enjoyable times of my life. Melbourne, with its great food, culture, and history, taught me a lot about myself while I was surrounded by like-minded Chiropractic students. I’ve also lived in Brisbane and Inverell, but now I’m in Darwin, and I’m excited to see what the future holds here.
The Power of Movement
As I start to serve more people here at the Centre, it’s essential to keep my body functioning at its best. This means fueling my body with high-quality food and moving every day. I love cooking for myself and others, as food plays a role in many intimate and important moments in our lives. If I can be a part of those moments, it brings me immense joy. To stay functional and strong, I enjoy running, swimming, HIIT workouts, and daily walks with my Dachshund, Ronnie. These forms of movement help me serve to the best of my ability!
Looking forward to continuing this wonderful journey with all of you here in Darwin!

What Are the Differences Between Probiotics and Prebiotics?
Probiotics and prebiotics are frequently discussed together but serve distinct roles in enhancing gut health. Probiotics consist of live bacteria and yeasts that offer numerous benefits when consumed in sufficient quantities. These beneficial microorganisms play a vital role in maintaining a balanced gut microbiome, supporting digestion and bolstering immune function.
Conversely, prebiotics are forms of dietary fibre that nourish the beneficial bacteria already present in the gut. By acting as fuel for probiotics, prebiotics stimulate their growth and enhance their activity. While probiotics introduce new strains of bacteria, prebiotics foster the growth of existing ones. Common sources of prebiotics include onions, garlic and bananas.
Understanding these distinctions is essential for optimising gut health through a holistic approach!
